fandom
I have been thinking for a while what I am fan of. I am not a fan of anything particular. I feel this is a disadvantage for me not being a fan of anything (at least disadvantage for being in this Digital Culture program). The reason might be that I enjoy doing many things and cannot narrow down to few things that I would be absorbed in. I used to read a lot of mangas (Japanese comics) when I was in primary school and junior high school. However, I was never obsessed with any specific manga or writer. Osamu Tezuka was one of my favorites but was not crazy about his works. I used to listens LP records my parents had. MD, MP3 or music online never attracted me. I prefer using a manual camera than a digital camera. I used to go fishing often but was never happy about using a fancy fishing gear or a fishfinder (a machine which detects fish under water). I love watching sports, especially baseball and football, but prefer to go and actually see the match than on TV or game. Perhaps, another reason that I am not fan of any media would be that I am used to a paper format (paper book & paper photo) and manual machines and afraid to change such habits.

Hi Junko,
ReplyDeleteyou say that you prefer some things above other, like manual cameras (or devices in general) above digital ones. Can't you say that, for example, you're a fan of manual camera's? Nowadays, it's quite exceptional if you still use one, isn't it? Personally, I also prefer manual photography to digital but I decided to follow the mainstream and decided to buy a digital camera.
Ciao,

ReplyDeleteI understand really about the issue that you don't feel that you would consider yourself as "hyper fan", that goes nuts after some issue.
Like people are getting "nuts" about Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Manga, Anime and things like these. Everyone can be fan of something if they want to, but sometimes it feels that "hyper fans" just looses meaning just to enjoy purely.
I'll count myself also just enjoyer not a "hyper one" =)
I don't enjoy fishfinder either. I love fishing a lot but as you said i use very simple and basic fishing devices. That is the fun in fishing i think. I used once a fishfinder but honestly it was not as much fun as it was just sitting on the lake with a simple fishing rod and waiting. :D
ReplyDeleteI cannot say i am crazy about something in particular either. I like many things and i usually keep a balance between them. I am more of a enjoyer than a fan.
